October is upon us, and now is the time to celebrate the macabre and gear up for a night of tricks and treats on Halloween. Kids and adults alike will be dressing up and haunting the streets, enjoying the spoils Halloween has to offer.

And what would Halloween be without everybody’s favorite sweet treats- candy?

Trick or Treat: Fun Facts About Halloween Candy

Everybody has their favorites, whether it’s the chocolaty, chewy goodness of a Snickers bar, or the tart and tangy goodness of a Laffy Taffy, but there’s more to the candy you love to enjoy than meets the eye. Here are some fun facts about Halloween candy that you might not know!

Americans love their candy!

Well, maybe this is one that you already knew, but did you realize that Americans purchase nearly 600 million pounds of candy each year, just for Halloween alone? That is equal to 158 trillion individual Candy Corns! Now, that’s a lot of candy!

Halloween Beats Valentine’s Day and Easter for Chocolate Sales

You might think that Easter would win, with all of those chocolate bunnies, or maybe Valentine’s Day with the tons of chocolate samplers, but Halloween beats both holidays by a wide margin when it comes to chocolate sales. An awe-inspiring 90 million pounds of chocolate is sold during Halloween week, making it the clear winner.

Chocolate is Not King at Halloween

With all of that chocolate being sold, you might think that it is America’s number one treat, but did you know that Candy Corn is actually the top Halloween candy? It shouldn’t be that hard to believe, considering Candy Corn has been around for more than 100 years! Move over, Snickers, there’s a new king in town!

Bigger is Better

Every kid knows that nothing beats the house that hands out full-size candy bars, but did you know that there’s an even bigger kid on the block? The Guinness World Record for the largest chocolate bar in the world is a bar that weighs in at 9,722 pounds!

Tootsie Pops Take Time to Devour

You’ve undoubtedly wondered at some time or another what the answer is to an age-old question- how many licks does it take to get to the chewy center of a Tootsie Pop, anyway? Well, engineering students at Purdue created a licking machine to get to the bottom of this dilemma and found the answer. It takes 364 licks to get to the center!
