Five Fantastic Facts for Father’s Day Fun!

Summer is upon us, and along with the longer, lazier days just perfect for hanging with the family comes the opportunity to celebrate the daddies in our lives. This June, families everywhere will be honoring the men in their lives who have long stood for stability and strength of family ties. While some dads will be waking up to breakfast in bed or a traditional necktie in a hand wrapped package, others will be setting out about town to celebrate their special day with a restaurant meal and a movie. We here at Flancer’s can’t wait to welcome all of the dads and their families this Father’s Day!

But before you start celebrating the special men in your life, we have a few fun facts about Father’s Day that you might not know. With these cool facts, dads can wow the kids with some crazy but-true trivia.

We’ve Been Celebrating Dads a Long Time

Although the concept of Father’s Day was supported as far back as 1924, it wasn’t until 1966 that President Lyndon Johnson signed a presidential proclamation declaring the third Sunday in June to be Father’s Day. But dad’s big day wasn’t quite permanent until 1972 when President Richard Nixon signed it into law.

Dads Everywhere!

Did you know that there are more than 70.1 million dads in the United States alone? About a third of those daddies are married with children under the age of 18, and nearly two million of them are single fathers. That’s a lot of dads to love!

Father’s Day is Big Business

The average family spends roughly $115.57 on Father’s Day gifts, which means that national spending on dad’s big day will reach nearly $12.7 billion. According to the Greeting Card Association, Father’s Day is also the fourth biggest day for sending greeting cards too, although the most popular gift for dads has long been the traditional necktie. Have you gotten dad a card or gift yet?!

Dads Come in All Ages

Did you know that the oldest father on record was 90 years old?! The honor goes to an Indian farmer names Nanu Ram Jogi, who fathered his 21st child in the year 2007.

June is Meant for Dads

You might think that Father’s Day is a solely American holiday, but did you know that dads are celebrated on the third Sunday in June all across the world? It’s the designated day for dads in not only the US, but also India, Canada, France, Greece, Japan, and Hong Kong!
